One question I get asked all the time is, “What can I do in a Zoom meeting?” Today I’m going to address that question. We’ll cover what you can do as a participant, host, and learn about hotkeys and dial-in controls. So, let’s zoom in!
Windows keyboard shortcuts
Users of Windows can perform the following keyboard commands. You can also view the updated keyboard list on Zoom’s website.
F6, navigate among Zoom popup windows.
CONTROL+ALT+SHIFT, move focus to Zoom’s meeting controls.
ALT, toggle the option to always show the meeting control toolbar in Accessibility Settings.
ALT+F1, switch to Active Speaker View in a video meeting.
ALT+V, start or stop video.
ALT+A, mute or unmute audio.
Hold SPACEBAR, temporarily unmute your microphone while the key is pressed.
ALT+M, mute or unmute audio for everyone except the host. This option is available to the meeting host only.
ALT+S, launch the Share Screen window and stop screen share. This only works when the meeting control toolbar has focus.
ALT+SHIFT+S, start or stop a new screen share. This only works when the meeting control toolbar has focus.
ALT+T, pause or resume screen share. This only works when the meeting control toolbar has focus.
ALT+R, start or stop local recording.
ALT+C, start or stop cloud recording.
ALT+P, pause or resume recording.
ALT+N, switch camera.
ALT+F, enter or exit full screen.
ALT+H, display or hide the In-Meeting Chat panel.
ALT+U, display or hide the Participants panel.
ALT+I, open the Invite window.
ALT+Y, raise or lower hand.
ALT+SHIFT+R, gain remote control.
ALT+SHIFT+G, stop remote control.
CONTROL+2, read active speaker name.
CONTROL+T, jump to chat with someone.
CONTROL+W, close current chat session.
CONTROL+UP ARROW, go to previous chat.
CONTROL+DOWN ARROW, go to next chat.
CONTROL+F, search.
CONTROL+PLUS, increase chat size.
CONTROL+MINUS, decrease chat size.
ALT+Q, end or leave meeting.
Mac keyboard shortcuts
Users of macOS can perform the following keyboard commands. You can also view the updated keyboard list on Zoom’s website.
COMMAND+J, join meeting.
COMMAND+CONTROL+V, start meeting.
COMMAND+CONTROL+S, screen share via direct share.
COMMAND+SHIFT+A, mute or unmute audio.
COMMAND+CONTROL+M, mute audio for everyone except the host. Only available to the host.
COMMAND+CONTROL+U, unmute audio for everyone except host. Only available to the host.
SPACE, push to talk.
COMMAND+SHIFT+V, start or stop video.
COMMAND+SHIFT+N, switch camera.
COMMAND+SHIFT+S, start or stop screen share.
COMMAND+SHIFT+T, pause or resume screen share.
COMMAND+SHIFT+R, start local recording.
COMMAND+SHIFT+C, start cloud recording.
COMMAND+SHIFT+P, pause or resume recording.
COMMAND+SHIFT+W, switch to active speaker view or gallery view, depending on current view.
CONTROL+P, view previous 25 participants in gallery view.

iOS keyboard shortcuts
If you’re using an iDevice with a keyboard, the following shortcuts are available in a Zoom meeting:
COMMAND+SHIFT+A, mute or unmute your audio. If using VoiceOver, you can magic tap (double tap with two fingers) to mute or unmute your microphone.
COMMAND+SHIFT+V, start or stop your video.
COMMAND+SHIFT+H, display or hide chat.
COMMAND+SHIFT+M, minimize meeting.
COMMAND+U, display or hide manage participants.
COMMAND+W, close the front window, such as the participants or meeting settings window.
Phone controls for participants
The following commands can be entered via DTMF tones using your phone’s dial pad while in a Zoom meeting:
Star 6, toggle mute or unmute.
Star 9, raise hand.
Phone controls for meeting host
If you have entered the Host Key to start the meeting, you’ll have host controls available to you by entering DTMF tones on your dial pad. To hear all available commands, enter Star Star on your phone.
Star 4, end the meeting for all participants.
Star 5, lock or unlock the meeting.
Star 6, mute or unmute yourself.
Star 7, start or stop recording. Note: all participants in the meeting will be notified when recording is stopped or started.
Star Pound, hear the number of participants in the meeting.
9 9, mute or unmute all participants.
FAQ
What’s the quickest way to mute myself in a Zoom meeting?
On Windows, press ALT+A. On Mac, press COMMAND+SHIFT+A. On iPhone with VoiceOver, double tap with two fingers (magic tap). If you dialed in on a phone, press Star 6.
Can I raise my hand using the keyboard?
Yes. On Windows, press ALT+Y. On Mac, press OPTION+Y.
How do I get to the meeting controls with a screen reader?
On Windows, press CONTROL+ALT+SHIFT to move focus to Zoom’s meeting controls. From there you can TAB through the available controls.
Can I control a Zoom meeting from a phone call?
Yes. If you dial in, you can mute, raise your hand, and if you’re the host, start and stop recording, lock the meeting, and more, all using your phone’s dial pad. Enter Star Star to hear all available commands.
